St. Rita of Cascia High School Announces New Head Fishing Coach

CHICAGO – St. Rita High School Athletic Director, AJ Avery ‘12, announced that Andy Jensen has been named the new Head Fishing Coach.

“We are so excited to welcome Coach Jensen to St. Rita and begin our new Fishing Program.” Avery shared. “His passion and commitment to fishing is evident — we know he will be a great mentor to our Ritamen.”

The Fishing Program at St. Rita was launched as a new club driven by a growing interest in fishing among rising teens. In early February, we had our first Fishing Club meeting where our Ritamen met with Coach Jensen and explored the world of fishing. Since then, the Fishing Club has been meeting every Thursday with Coach Jensen, teaching our Ritamen fishing techniques and preparing to put their skills to the test on the water.

Jensen brings many achievements to the St. Rita Bass Fishing program including:

  • Serving as the Assistant Head Coach at Oak Lawn Community High School, mentoring students about fishing and helping them practice on the water

  • Co-founding the Moraine Valley Fishing Team, traveling across the country competing against schools nationwide

  • Leading the Moraine Valley Fishing Team to multiple accomplishments, including qualifying for the FLW Collegiate National Championship for two years

  • Serving as team captain of Bass Fishing junior and senior year of high school

  • Earning the title of “Angler of the Year” his senior year of high school

“I am eager to share my knowledge of fishing and foster a love for the outdoors in students,” Coach Jensen said. “My goal is to offer them the same positive experiences and impact that I received from my coaches, hoping they will carry this forward to others in the future. I aim to bring enthusiasm and a strong drive to succeed to this program. ‘A bad day of fishing beats a good day of anything at all.’”

Jensen grew up in Oak Lawn, where he continues to be an active parishioner of St. Germaine. He attended Sward Elementary School and Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School, graduating in 2011. Coach Jensen went on to Oak Lawn Community High School, graduating in 2015. He began college at Moraine Valley Community College, studying EMS and Basic Fire Operations and later attended South Suburban College for paramedic training.
