Antonio Godinez Returns To Lead St. Rita Soccer As Head Coach
CHICAGO – AJ Avery ’12, Athletic Director has announced the return of Antonio Godinez as Head Coach of the St. Rita Soccer Program. Antonio previously led the program from 2005 to 2009. “I am excited for the opportunity to be back at St. Rita. I look forward to working with the team to bring the program to new success,” Godinez said. “But, my ultimate goal is to create a program where soccer players not only become great student-athletes, but also develop into fine young men with bright futures.”
Coach Godinez has led soccer teams to success in many Chicago–area Catholic League schools. In addition, he is a three-time winner of the prestigious Tony Lawless Award which is given to the best player or coach in the Catholic League. However, if you ask him, he is most proud of coaching and guiding over 50 players who have gone on to play at the college level, including more than 10 captains. “I want all of my players to be in it for their long term success, not simply short term wins” Godinez said.
Antonio earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Lewis University in 2004. He will also work in the school as a Spanish teacher and Admissions Coordinator. Principal Josh Blaszak ’02 said, “I am excited that Antonio will be joining our teaching staff. As a native speaker, he will be a great addition to our Spanish Department. Antonio will assist in the development of new Spanish language programing. He offers a new and unique perspective for our students.”
Deacon John Donahue, President of St. Rita, said, “Antonio is a tremendous addition to our soccer program and our school overall. He brings a wealth of soccer experience as a head coach, as a club coach, and as a private coach. Antonio is also well-known on the southwest side as a person who will go the extra mile for his players and his students. It is his commitment to the community that has impressed me the most about him. We are blessed to have Antonio re-join the St. Rita Family.”
