The Merchant House is named in honor of St. Rita High School’s 1st African American student Mr. McAlister Merchant. Amid an era of civil rights, Mr. Merchant enrolled at St. Rita in 1957 and graduated in 1961. Thus, the Merchant House represents the diversity present at St. Rita of Cascia High School.
