On Tuesday, August 28, St. Rita High School opened their campus to a dozen grade school football teams and their families in their annual Grade School Football Jamboree.
12 teams participated (St. Barnabas, St. Cajetan, St. Christina, St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Daniel the Prophet, St. Germaine/St. Gerald’s, St. John Fisher, St. John of the Cross, St. Michael, St. Rene Goupil, Christ the King, and Queen of Martyrs) from nearby neighborhoods and parishes. In total, there were 300+ players in attendance as well as parents, families, and other supporters—well over 400 people on the night!
Each team was guaranteed three full scrimmages with their conference and division opponents held on six different football fields on St. Rita’s beautiful campus. Guests enjoyed the action from two different sets of bleachers as St. Rita faculty and staff members greeted their guests and shared in the football action.
After each team completed their football scrimmages, they were treated to a complimentary Mustang Meal consisting of hot dogs, chips, and refreshments as well as a St. Rita Football Jamboree t-shirt. Over 300 hot dogs were cooked, served, and eaten in a flash.
Before the action kicked off, Fr. Rich Young, O.S.A. ’82, St. Rita’s Director of Campus Ministry and Augustinian Mission, started things off as all things do at St. Rita, with a prayer. Head Coach Todd Kuska ’90 then thanked the teams and their coaches for their participation at the jamboree, and reminded them that our current student body is comprised of hundreds of graduates from the schools participating. Without such outstanding grade schools and their wonderful students and families, St. Rita High School would not be where it is today.
It was then football time! The night was filled with lots of quality football action to get everyone ready for their seasons–it was a great night at St. Rita!
“We welcome all grade schools and their families to St. Rita not only tonight, but always throughout our year. This is a great night to watch football but also to show our families and supporters that St. Rita High School is a friendly, welcoming, and overall exciting place to be,” remarked Craig Ferguson, Director of Admissions at St. Rita.
Thanks to all grade schools and their families for their involvement and participation on the night!
