St. Rita Students Receive AP Awards

Seven recent graduates from the Class of 2009 at St. Rita of Cascia High School have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the nearly 1.7 students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.
The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based onstudents’ performance on AP Exams.
At St. Rita, one student qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. This student is Daniel Moore (St. John Fisher), who earned an average grade of 4.6 from the five exams he took. Moore was also the Valedictorian for the Class of 2009 and is currently attending the University of Chicago.
Two students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These young men are Benjamin Richardson (St. Bernardine) and David Straple (St. Germaine).
Four students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are Brian Boyd (Central Junior High), Antanas Janavicius (Nativity BVM), James Quinn (St. Cajetan), and Kyle White (St. Thomas More).
St. Rita offers twelve advanced placement level courses to qualifying students in the following: AP Art: 2D Design, AP Art: Studio Drawing, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP English, AP French, AP Latin, AP Music, AP Psychology, AP Spanish, AP U.S. History, and AP World History.

St. Rita of Cascia High School’s Dan Moore ’09 qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award with the average grade of 4.6 he earned on the five AP Exams he took.
