2009-2010 Student Government Inducted

During St. Rita of Cascia High School’s opening Mass for the 2009-2010 academic year, the 2009-2010 Student Government was official inducted. Officers for the sophomore, junior, and senior classes were sworn in by President Fr. Tom McCarthy, O.S.A. and Principal Mrs. Sally Deenihan. By pleading to serve as liaisons between the administration and the student body, these young men secured their roles as leaders at St. Rita.
The Student Government President is senior Mike Basic (St. Mary Star of the Sea), and the Vice President is senior Joe Campagna (St. Cajetan). The representatives for the senior class are Tom Kelly (St. Bernadette), Marty Kordas (St. Cajetan), Tim Ladd (St. Cajetan), and Tom Murphy (St. Cajetan). The representatives for the Junior Class are Liam Hopkins (St. Cajetan), Ryan McGowan (Most Holy Redeemer), Dan McGrath (St. Michael), and Aamir Walton (St. Sabina). The representatives for the sophomore class are Brendan Duffy (St. Alexander), John Johnson (St. Cajetan), Mike Murphy (Central Junior High), and Shakir Spells (St. Ethelreda). Representatives for the freshman class will be elected in October.

The Student Government operates under the guidance of the Activities Team: Director of Activities/Theology Teacher and Senior Class Moderator Bro. Gary Hresil, O.S.A. ’86, Director of Public Relations/Mathematics Teacher and Junior Class Moderator Mr. Josh Blaszak ’02, Guidance Counselor/Theology Teacher and Sophomore Class Moderator Mr. Tony Miranda, Director of Campus Ministry and Freshman Class Moderator Mrs. Vicki Blaszak.
Along with providing input to the administration, the Student Government Officers demonstrates their leadership by planning and executing St. Rita community building and service events such as St. Rita’s Annual Mustang Olympics, Thanksgiving Food Drive, and Blood Drive. This year’s Student Government is already hard at work planning St. Rita’s Homecoming Week 2009 activities that will culminate with a Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 19th.
Each year, the Student Government also selects a theme for the academic year, and this year the chosen theme is Remembering Our Past, As We Work in the Present, To Build for the Future: The St. Rita Family, A Timeless Tradition.”
