Mark Payton Named Player of the Year

For Immediate Release June 15, 2009

Mark Payton ’10 (Orland JHS) does not appear at first to be too intimidating. Standing 5’8” and usually reserved, he lets his play speak for him. And it speaks in a loud, clear voice.

Payton was named as the Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year after his offensive output helped power the Mustangs to the 4A State Title game, in which they came up just short against New Trier. He was just one of many standouts on a team chock-full of raw talent. Mark is verbally committed to Arizona State University, and looks forward to his senior season at Rita next year.

Congratulations to Mark on this incredible feat, which is indicative of the type of success he has had at St. Rita, on the field, in the classroom, and as a student leader.
