I congratulate these young athletes as well, and hope some of the others get more than a look. I was very fortunate to have great coaches at St. Rita and I am especially grateful to Coach Mike Eckert for helping me get a full ride to De Paul for track and cross-country back in 1971. College was not in the cards or even on the radar screen for me until I started getting scholarship offers. For me, that was a life-changing event. I hope these young athletes will have the same great experience I had and that they will appreciate the coaches, teachers and others at St. Rita who helped shape their minds and character and set the stage for the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead for them.
