Why St. Rita?

Why St. Rita High School?

“St. Rita offers me everything I want in a school – the best of academics and athletics. I have fun every day and the size makes it seem like one big family. Every teacher knows me. Going to an all-boys’ school frees me from distractions and allows me to focus academically.”

– Alec Antonelli (Class of 2009)
Senior, St. Rita High School

“St. Rita of Cascia High School has opened the doors to unlimited opportunities for me. The St. Rita curriculum prepared me for college and allowed me to take five AP courses, for which I received college credit. With St. Rita’s outstanding academic reputation, I was accepted by my first choice – the University of Notre Dame. However, my experience at St. Rita reached far beyond the classroom. St. Rita provided an environment where I could grow intellectually, spiritually and socially. St. Rita taught me the morals and ethics that constitute a man of principles. I now feel
confident about the next step in my life.”

– Jonathon A. Lopez (Class of 2007)
University of Notre Dame

“After 16 years of academic teaching and private practice, I continue to believe that the very best educational environment is here at St. Rita High School. I use gifts that I received during my four years at St. Rita in the daily practice and teaching of medicine. St. Rita was the cornerstone and foundation of my education and the tradition continues with both of my sons, Fred III (Class of 2007) and Ben (Class of 2009) receiving the very best in a Catholic education here. I thank St. Rita everyday for the many blessings bestowed upon myself and my family.”

– Fred Richardson, M.D., ABFM, F.A.A.F.P. (Class of 1978)
Associate Attending Physician & Assistant Professor,
Rush University Medical Center
Medical Director, Neighborhood Family Practice
Alumnus, Parent

“When I entered St. Rita in 1979, I knew there was something special about this place. It was more than a school, it was a real community of people who cared for each other. When I was assigned here in 1994, that same spirit came right back to me — a different day and age but the same spirit and tradition. I am very happy and privileged to share this same Augustinian spirit with our present Rita men. I am truly blessed to be part of The St. Rita Family”

– Father Tom McCarthy, O.S.A. (Class of 1983)
President of St. Rita High School

“I became a teacher and coach because I enjoy young people and I like to share my knowledge and experience with others. Teaching at St. Rita has been rewarding to me in many ways. I was given an opportunity to start a swimming and water polo program from scratch. Many of my athletes stay in touch and a few have become coaches themselves. I have met great friends on the faculty. I also have had the opportunity to teach and coach two of my three sons!”

– Mr. Chuck Knibbs
Teacher, Coach, Parent

“St. Rita’s curriculum has vastly expanded my knowledge in all academic fields, and my critical and analytical skills. Specifically, I feel I have grown most as a writer. My senior year Advanced Placement English class and four years as a writer and editor for the school newspaper, The Ritan, contributed most to this. Our school’s academic program has allowed me to gain acceptance into some of the nation’s premier universities – including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Northwestern, Notre Dame, and the University of Chicago. I owe my selection as a Finalist in the Chicago Tribune’s 2006 Illinois High School All-State Academic Team, and as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and Winner to St. Rita’s challenging curriculum and excellent teachers. Due to my four senior year Advanced Placement classes (which prepared me to become an AP Scholar with Honors), I feel well-prepared to excel for the next four years at the University of Chicago.”

– Mr. Eliot Bessette (Class of 2006)
University of Chicago

“Aside from the 100 year plus tradition and unbelievable energy, we liked the single-gender atmosphere, the challenging courses, and the nurturing of Catholic values along with the development of the whole person. When it’s time to consider where your son will attend high school, you can have confidence St. Rita will continue to deliver.”

– Mr. Rick Bessette
Parent of Eliot Bessette (Class of 2006)
